By the 1930s, millions of people around the world listen to news, sports, and their favorite shows on their AM (Amplitude Modulation) radios. But technological problems persist with AM – static and interference between stations. To clean up reception, Edwin Armstrong develops a totally new system: FM (Frequency Modulation) radio. Armstrong’s third major contribution to radio broadcasting eventually creates a new industry that continues to this day.
